Tools you'll need
- Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) or a dedicated panel-prep wipe
- Microfibre cloths (lint-free)
- Masking tape and a tape measure
- Automotive-grade double-sided adhesive tape (usually supplied with the skirts)
- Trim clips or self-tapping screws, if included in your fitting kit
- Axle stands or ramps, for safe access underneath the sills
Step 1: Check your fitment
Confirm you have the MK3 (5F) generation (2013-2020) before ordering, and check for any facelift/pre-facelift difference noted on the listing — sill profiles can vary even within the same generation. Cross-check against your V5C or your Leon's chassis code.
Step 2: Clean and prep the surface
Wash the sills thoroughly and dry them completely. Wipe the full bonding area with isopropyl alcohol to remove all wax, polish, underseal overspray and silicone residue — residue is the single biggest cause of a skirt lifting at the front or rear edge over time.
Step 3: Dry-fit along the full length
Offer each skirt up to the sill without removing the adhesive backing. Check it sits flush and level along its entire length, not just at the centre — a skirt that looks level in the middle can still gap at one end. Use masking tape to mark the exact position before committing.
Step 4: Bond and secure
Remove the adhesive backing and, working from one end, press the skirt firmly into place within your marked guides, working along the full length in stages rather than trying to seat it all at once. If your kit includes clips or screws, fit these once the tape has made initial contact — they carry the long-term load on a panel this size.
Step 5: Let it cure
Most automotive-grade adhesives reach a workable bond within an hour but need 24–48 hours to fully cure. Avoid driving through deep speed bumps, using a car wash, or resting anything against the skirts during this window.

- Skipping the IPA wipe-down — wax and underseal residue is the most common cause of a skirt lifting at one end
- Only checking the fit at the centre of the panel instead of along its full length
