How to Fit a Porsche Boxster Rear Spoiler: Step-by-Step Installation Guide

The 982 generation Boxster has a low, clean boot lid that shows up any imperfection in a spoiler fit more than most cars. This guide covers the fitting process for our Porsche Boxster rear spoiler, finished in gloss black for the 2016 onward generation.

Tools you'll need

  • Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) or a dedicated panel prep wipe
  • Microfibre cloths (lint free)
  • Masking tape and a tape measure
  • Automotive grade double sided adhesive tape or panel bonding adhesive (usually supplied with the spoiler)
  • A second pair of hands to help hold position while you check alignment

Step 1: Check your fitment

Confirm you have the 982 generation Boxster (2016 onward) before ordering. The low, curved boot lid on this car means small measuring errors are more visible than on a flatter panel.

Step 2: Clean and prep the surface

Wash the boot lid thoroughly and dry it completely. Wipe the mounting area with isopropyl alcohol to remove all wax, polish and road grime for the strongest possible bond.

Step 3: Mask and mark your position

Use masking tape either side of the boot lid to mark a level line, measuring from the same reference points on both sides so the spoiler sits perfectly central on the curve of the panel.

Step 4: Dry fit before you commit

Offer the spoiler up to the boot lid without removing the adhesive backing. With a second pair of hands, check it sits flush and level along the full curve before going any further.

Step 5: Bond and secure

Remove the adhesive backing and, working from the centre outward, press the spoiler firmly into place within your marked guides. Apply firm, even pressure along the full width for at least 60 seconds.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Not accounting for the curve of the boot lid when marking guide lines, leading to a spoiler that sits proud at one end
  • Skipping the IPA wipe down, residue is the top cause of a spoiler lifting
  • Fitting in cold weather without warming the adhesive or panel first
  • Fitting alone on a curved panel rather than getting a second pair of hands to check alignment
  • Washing the car or using a jet wash within the first 24 to 48 hours while the adhesive cures

FAQs

Do I need to drill any holes?

No, this spoiler is designed as a direct adhesive fit using the supplied tape and adhesive, no drilling is required.

Will this fit the Cayman as well?

This listing is fitted and shaped for the Boxster, check our Porsche range separately if you are looking for a Cayman specific part.

Can I fit this myself, or should I get it professionally fitted?

Most owners fit this themselves in under an hour with a second pair of hands. If you are not confident working with automotive adhesives, we would always recommend a professional bodyshop or detailer.
