None of the steps below require specialist tools, just a bit of patience and a dry fit before anything gets permanent.

What You'll Need Before Starting

  • The splitter and its fitting kit. Most kits include trim clips and/or self-tapping screws matched to the factory mounting points — check what's included before assuming you need to buy fixings separately.
  • Automotive-grade double-sided tape. Even when mechanical fixings are supplied, tape along the top edge helps seat the splitter flush and stops vibration between the fixing points.
  • Isopropyl alcohol and a cloth. For degreasing the bumper surface before any tape is applied — tape bonds poorly to a bumper that hasn't been properly cleaned.
  • A basic socket set or drill. Only needed if your splitter's fitting kit uses screws rather than clip-in trim fasteners.
  • Axle stands or ramps. For safe, comfortable access to the underside of the front bumper — never rely on a jack alone while working underneath the car.

Step 1: Dry-Fit Before You Fix Anything

Offer the splitter up to the bumper without tape or screws and check it sits flush along its full length, with an even gap on both sides. Before final tightening, check the gap between the splitter's lowest edge and the ground with someone sitting in the driver's seat, since a car's front end drops slightly under normal load.   • Over-tightening screws. ABS and carbon fibre splitters can crack at the mounting points if fixings are torqued down too hard — snug is enough.
