Step 1: Check your fitment
Confirm your exact generation before you start — E70 (2006-2013), F15 (2013-2018) and G05 (2018-2024) all have different tailgate profiles, and a spoiler designed for one will not sit flush on another. Cross-check the fitment notes on the product listing against your V5C or the chassis code on your BMW's VIN plate. Step 2: Clean and prep the surface
Wash the tailgate roofline thoroughly and dry it completely. Wipe the mounting area with isopropyl alcohol to remove all wax, polish and silicone residue — any residue left behind will weaken the adhesive bond and can cause the spoiler to lift over time.
Step 3: Dry-fit before you commit
Place the spoiler along the tailgate roofline without removing the adhesive backing. Use masking tape to mark its exact position, checking it's centred and level from multiple angles — a roof-mounted spoiler on a tall SUV tailgate is more visible from below than a boot-lid spoiler, so take extra care getting it level. This is the step most people skip, and it's the one that prevents a crooked spoiler.
Step 4: Bond the spoiler
Remove the adhesive backing and, working from one edge, press the spoiler firmly into place within your marked guides. Apply firm, even pressure along the full length of the spoiler for at least 60 seconds — a heat gun on a low setting can help the adhesive key into the paintwork, especially in cold weather.
Step 5: Let it cure
Most automotive-grade adhesives reach a workable bond within an hour but need 24–48 hours to fully cure. Avoid driving at speed, using a car wash, or opening the tailgate forcefully during this window.
