Best BMW Z4 (E89/G29) Styling Upgrades Guide (2026)

Best BMW Z4 (E89/G29) Styling Upgrades Guide (2026)

The Z4 is BMW's two-seat roadster, and the two generations we cover here couldn't be more different in character: the E89 (2009-2016) is a folding hard-top with a fairly conservative, GT-leaning shape, while the current G29 (2018+), co-developed with Toyota's Supra, is a sharper, more overtly sporty design from the outset. That difference shows in the styling upgrades available for each.

Rear Spoiler: E89 (2009-2016)

For the E89, we stock a boot-lid spoiler in gloss black ABS, styled to reference the M Sport aesthetic without requiring the full M Sport bodykit. It's a compact, boot-lid-mounted lip rather than a raised wing, in keeping with the E89's more understated GT roadster shape.

Rear Spoiler: G29 (2018+)

For the G29, we stock a rear boot spoiler in gloss black, sized to suit the convertible's shorter, more sharply cut-off tail. Because the G29's roofline and boot are already more aggressively styled from the factory, this spoiler reads as a natural extension of the factory design rather than a bolt-on addition.

Front Splitter: G29 M Sport (2023+)

For the LCI (facelifted) G29 in M Sport specification, we also stock a front splitter in gloss black, built specifically around the M Sport front bumper. This is the part that changes the G29's road presence the most, adding a lower, wider-looking front end that suits the Z4's sports car positioning. It's built for M Sport LCI models specifically (2023+), so please check your bumper shape against our fitment photos if you have an earlier or non-M Sport G29.

Gloss Black vs Carbon Fibre

We also list a carbon-fibre-pattern version of the E89 spoiler, though it's temporarily out of stock at the time of writing — gloss black is the option currently available to ship. Where a printed carbon finish is available on other models in our range, it tends to suit cars already carrying black or carbon exterior trim; gloss black remains the safer, more universal choice for most colour combinations.

Fitting Notes

Both spoilers and the splitter are supplied with 3M automotive adhesive tape for a no-drill fit. As a two-seat roadster, the Z4's boot lid and front bumper are both fairly compact and easy to work around on a home driveway, but we'd still recommend the usual steps for a permanent bond: isopropyl alcohol wipe-down, firm pressure along the full contact edge, and 24-48 hours before an automatic wash.

E89 vs G29: A Different Kind of Roadster

If you're not sure which generation you have, the quickest tell is the roof: the E89 has a folding hard-top (a proper metal roof that stows in the boot), while the G29 uses a fabric soft-top. The G29 is also noticeably lower and wider-hipped in profile, reflecting its more track-focused design brief compared to the E89's GT leanings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the E89 spoiler affect the folding hard-top mechanism?
No — it's designed to sit clear of the roof's folding mechanism and boot clearance, but we'd always recommend checking fitment against your exact spec first.

Will the G29 splitter fit a non-M Sport Z4?
No — it's built specifically for the M Sport LCI front bumper shape. Please check your bumper against our fitment photos if you're on a different spec.

When will the E89 carbon fibre spoiler be back in stock?
Please check the product page for current availability, or get in touch and we'll confirm restock timing.

Can I fit these parts myself?
Yes, all are designed for DIY fitting with the supplied adhesive tape.
