Best BMW X4 (F26/G02) Styling Upgrades Guide (2026)

The X4 was BMW's bet that buyers wanted an SUV that drove and looked more like a coupe, and going by how many of them we see coming through for styling work, that bet paid off. The sloping roofline that makes the X4 stand out in a car park is also what makes it one of the more distinctive shapes to style in the range — it doesn't behave like a normal SUV, so the parts that suit it aren't always the obvious ones either.

We stock parts for both the original F26 and the current G02 generation, covering the two upgrades X4 owners actually ask us for: front splitters and rear spoilers.

Front Splitters

For the G02 pre-LCI (2018-2021) M Sport bumper, we stock a 3-piece front splitter in both carbon fibre and gloss black ABS finishes. A 3-piece splitter gives a wider, more aggressive spread across the bumper than a single centre piece would, which suits the G02's already-wide front end. As with most M Sport splitters, the bumper opening is specific to the trim level, so checking your bumper against the fitment photos before ordering is worth the two minutes it takes — it's the difference between a part that clips straight in and one you're sending back.

Rear Spoilers

This is where the X4 range genuinely opens up, and it's worth understanding the difference between the styles before picking one. The F26 gets a roof spoiler lip and a mid-mounted wing, both in gloss black. The G02 has an equivalent roof spoiler and a boot-mounted wing, available in both gloss black and carbon fibre.

The roof spoiler is the subtler of the two on either generation — it sits along the top of the rear window and barely changes the car's silhouette from a distance, which makes it the safer pick if you want the X4 to still look factory. The mid or boot-mounted wing sits further back and lower, and it's far more visible in a rear-three-quarter view, which is the angle that makes the X4's sloped roofline look like it was always meant to end in a wing. If you're chasing that coupe-SUV look the X4 was actually designed around, the wing is the part that delivers it — the roof spoiler is more of a finishing touch.

Gloss Black or Carbon Fibre?

On the G02, both the splitter and the boot wing are available in gloss black ABS or a carbon fibre finish, and the choice really comes down to what else is going on with your car. Gloss black is the lower-maintenance option and matches the factory kidney grille surrounds on most trims without any thought required. Carbon fibre reads as a more deliberate, built-up look, but it only really lands if there's at least one other carbon part on the car — a single carbon splitter on an otherwise stock-look X4 can end up looking mismatched rather than intentional.

Fitting Notes

The splitter fits using the bumper's existing mounting points along with automotive-grade double-sided tape on the contact edges — no cutting is needed on a standard M Sport bumper, but the bumper does need to come forward enough for clean, dry access underneath. Roof and boot spoilers are more straightforward, generally locating onto existing mounting points or using tape directly onto a properly cleaned and prepped surface, and most owners manage these themselves in an afternoon.

F26 vs G02: What Changes

The F26 (2014-2018) was the launch generation, and it's a narrower, slightly softer-edged car than what followed. The G02 (2018+) brought a wider track, sharper bumpers, and the option of the X4M performance model, which is also when the boot-mounted wing and carbon finish options were introduced. Roof spoilers and mid/boot wings are generation-specific and will not swap between an F26 and a G02 — the roofline and boot lid profile changed enough between the two that a part built for one simply sits wrong on the other. Always confirm which chassis code you have before ordering; it's usually on the same badge or paperwork that tells you the model year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a 3-piece splitter fit a non-M Sport X4?

No — it's built around the M Sport bumper's lower opening specifically, so it won't seat correctly on a standard SE or xLine bumper.

Does the boot-mounted wing block the rear wiper?

No, it's positioned to clear the factory rear wiper's full range of motion, so normal function isn't affected.

Can I fit both a roof spoiler and a boot wing at the same time?

Yes — they sit in different positions and don't interfere with each other, so running both together is common on owners who want the fullest version of the look.

How long does a splitter last before it needs replacing?

With normal use and careful driving over speed bumps, an ABS splitter typically lasts for years — the main risk to longevity is a hard scrape or kerb strike rather than everyday wear.
